primarily a songwriter and lyricist known for the scope and versatility
of his works. Since introducing his compositions just a few years ago, Mr.
Scheer's songs have been performed by such top-rated artists as Renée
Fleming who sang some of his works on her recent concert tour, including
a performance at Carnegie Hall, Denyce
Graves, who included Scheer's "Christmas Once More" on her nationally
televised PBS special and has sung a number of his other songs with such
orchestras as the National Symphony in Washington, DC and the National Arts
Centre Symphony of Canada,
Stephanie Blythe and Nathan
Gunn who recently sang four Scheer songs on his debut solo disc "American
Anthem." Following his studies at the Eastman School of Music, Mr. Scheer went to Europe on a scholarship at the University of Cologne and subsequently on an International Rotary Fellowship at the Hochschüle für Musik in Vienna. While in Europe he began his professional life as director George Tabori's assistant at the Schauspielhaus in Cologne, and as an actor and singer in leading roles at the Theater an der Wien, the Deutsches Theater in Munich. The libretto for Thérèse Raquin is one of two recent commisions; the other is a choral version of his "Christmas Once More" which was performed by the Chicago Symphony and the Chicago Symphony Chorus in Orchestra Hall last December. |
